You only control the first leg of the path
- check_circle Your order travels from your machine to a IQFeed gateway, and from there to the exchange. The second leg is fixed. The first leg is the one hosting changes.
- check_circle A home connection adds 15 to 20 network hops and a consumer router before the path even leaves your street. A datacenter machine is a handful of hops onto a carrier backbone.
- check_circle Latency is not the only gain. A hosted machine does not drop the IQFeed session because someone streamed a film or the ISP re-provisioned the line at 4am.
- check_circle Reconnect behaviour matters as much as speed: an always-on machine re-establishes the session immediately rather than whenever you next open the lid.
