OVHcloud From

Overview

OVHcloud is not a trading host, and that is the whole comparison. It sells raw virtual machines cheaply — VPS-1 starts at $4.54/mo. Two things change that picture. MetaTrader needs Windows, which is a $9.60/mo add-on, so the honest entry price is $14.14. And the vCores you are buying are not equivalent to ours: independent Geekbench 6 testing by VPSBenchmarks, who purchase real instances, shows OVH's entry VPS line reporting as virtualized Intel Haswell-class silicon, an architecture from 2013, scoring around 700-770 single-core. Our bare-metal Ryzen 9 hardware scores around 2,900-3,300 on the same test. Because MT4 executes each tick as a single sequential chain on one core, that single-core figure is the number that sets your tick-to-order time, and extra vCores do not help.

OVHcloud is known for: Europe's largest hosting provider, 46 datacenters, industry-leading anti-DDoS, raw compute at low cost.

OVHcloud — Pros & Cons

thumb_up Pros

  • add_circle Cheapest raw compute here — VPS-1 from $4.54/mo before Windows
  • add_circle More RAM and storage per dollar than any trading-specific host, even with Windows added
  • add_circle 46 datacenters worldwide and a very large operational footprint
  • add_circle Industry-leading anti-DDoS included as standard
  • add_circle Full public API, and a free choice of Linux, Windows or BSD images

thumb_down Cons

  • remove_circle Windows is a $9.60/mo add-on — MetaTrader needs it, so the advertised price is never the real one
  • remove_circle Entry VPS line benchmarks as 2013-era Haswell-class silicon (~700-770 Geekbench 6 single-core, per VPSBenchmarks)
  • remove_circle MT4 runs one core per chart, so 4 or 6 slower vCores do not compensate for a 4x single-core deficit
  • remove_circle No MT4/MT5 pre-installed, no EA watchdog, no trade copier
  • remove_circle 99.9% SLA allows about 8.8 hours of downtime a year, against 52 minutes at 99.99%
  • remove_circle Datacenters at Roubaix, Gravelines, Frankfurt, Beauharnois and Paris — none adjacent to a financial exchange
  • remove_circle General cloud helpdesk, ticket-based; no trading-specific support
  • remove_circle You install, configure, secure, patch and monitor the machine yourself

gavel Our Verdict

Be honest about the parts OVH genuinely wins: RAM and storage per dollar, and they will stay cheaper on both. What does not follow is that you get more machine. MT4 executes each tick on a single core, so a plan advertising 4 or 6 vCores gives you exactly one working core no matter what you pay, and on OVH that core benchmarks around a quarter of ours. Four of their cores does not equal one of ours because you never get to use four — you get one 2013-class core doing the work. Add a datacenter nowhere near an exchange, a 99.9% SLA allowing about 8.8 hours of downtime a year, no MT4 preinstalled, no watchdog to restart your EA after a reboot, and no support who knows what a magic number is. If you want a big cheap Windows box for something other than live execution, OVH is a rational buy. If an EA is trading your money on it, you are optimising the wrong number.
